Cobscook Bay State Park

Cobscook Bay State Park is located in the Township of Edmunds, Maine- which is all the way up near the Northeast corner of Maine (and the Northeast corner of the US). The Park has two short trails, but is primarily used for camping and is known for its amazing water-side campsites.

There are 106 campsites with campsites 1 through 27 having power & electric (RV sites). We stayed at site #124, which sat right on the bay with great sunset views (once the moody Maine clouds moved away). Each site has a fire pit, picnic table, and some type of covered area. Our site had a lean-to style shelter on it, which was perfect to sit and enjoy some lunch while it was raining. Once we got a break in the rain, we set up our campsite and headed out for a hike.

On the way to our hike, it stared raining… hard. So we diverted and decided to drive into the nearby town for a beer. We stopped at Lubec Brewing Company and it was one of the best decisions of our New England road trip! The owner was great- letting us try multiple beers and explaining their flavors (all based off of local, Maine flavors..). We tried most of their beers and really loved them all (some we not the type of beer we drink, but we still enjoyed them!). On our way out, we grabbed some beer to go, a shirt, a koozie, and a patch (that’s how much we loved it- had to get some merch and beer to go home with!).

By the time we got back to our campsite, the clouds had cleared and we had a gorgeous sunset along the water. We enjoyed some dinner at our site and settled in for the night. I got up once in the middle of the night- when I looked up I think it was the most stars I’ve ever seen. Being in a more remote location with very little light pollution made for an amazing night sky.

In the morning we stopped by a coffee shop in Lubec before heading down to Acadia National Park. Lubec is a small town that shouldn’t be overlooked. Take one wrong turn across the bridge and you’ll be in Canada. But every local business here really takes pride it what they do. In early June of each year there is a Marathon (also ½ Marathon and 10k) that takes you across the Bay of Fundy from Maine to Canada! https://www.bayoffundymarathon.com

We had great weather while we were staying at this park (in the first week of June), but did notice some bugs- and I can image in the summer time the bugs are probably pretty significant. Per their website- mosquitoes and black flies are frequent late May through July. And shorebird migration peaks in late August and early September. Enjoy!
