Carvers Creek State Park
Carvers Creek State Park is the eighteenth Park in our 2025 North Carolina State Park Challenge. This park is 13 miles Northwest of Fayetteville, NC and is notable for the Rockefeller House, which was a winter home of James Stillman Rockefeller. We took the Rockefeller Loop Trail out to view the Rockefeller House- you can walk around the outside but the inside is closed for preservation and there are future plans for restoration. You can continue on to the Cypress Point Loop Trail to the observation deck where you can have a gorgeous view of the cypress pond and cypress trees.
The observation deck has quite a few benches to sit and listen to the sounds of the park as well as take a break before headed back down the trail. The park has a large array of wildlife including the Pine Barren Tree Frog (which they have on their park patch) and the endangered Red-Cockaded Woodpecker.
The Sandhills Access has majority of the trails (10.5 miles), and although it was our plan to go over there to hike, it was just too hot. We have had quite a few heat waves coming through this summer, so this park unfortunately was just a quick half-day adventure. As much as I wanted to keep going, we were dripping sweat at 11am and stop multiple times to take a break in the shade on the way back to the car. We still enjoyed our trip and all that this park had to offer. Make sure you bring your bug spray and check for ticks on the way out, Enjoy!
