Cliffs of the Neuse State Park

Cliffs of the Neuse State Park is the 41st Park in our 2025 North Carolina State Park Challenge. Located 15 miles southeast of Goldsboro, the park’s main focus is the 90 foot bluffs above the Neuse River. You can swim the lake, paddling and fish along the river, or hike and bike along the trails. We visited on a late fall evening and got the enjoy the fall foliage along the water.

We stopped by the Visitor Center first to grab our passport stamp- there is a dog parking spot off to the side of the visitor center and parking is right out front, making it an easy stop if it’s just you and your pup! We started hiking along the 350 Yard Trail- which has the classic park view from the cliffs overlooking the Neuse River. The trail takes you down the cliffs down to the water of the river. Then we took Galax Trail out to the swim lake and (after walking around the lake for a bit), took the Bird Trail back to the parking area.

During the summer the swim lake is open with boat rentals and a concession stand. There is tent, RV/trailer, and group camping and camper cabins for rent! It has a little something for ever time of year, enjoy!
