Camden Hills State Park
Camden Hills State Park is located in Camden, Maine- about 90 minutes from Mount Desert Island (where Acadia National Park is). We stopped through here for the night on our New England Road Trip on our way up the Coast. It’s right by a cute town with some local shops, breweries, and restaurants.
We were going to go up to Mount Battie in the Park (you can either hike up or drive up), but in typical Maine fashion it was a rainy day (with no views) which meant the morning was completely covered in fog. So we really just spent the night here, but really enjoyed the park. The rangers up front were super helpful checking us in and giving us information about the park and surrounding area. The campsites felt really private with a lot of trees, so you didn’t feel like you were right next to each other. The bathhouse was a small walk through the tree from our site, was clean, had an outdoor sink to wash your dishes, and individual showers separate from the bathrooms.
The park really has amazing coastal views from multiple overlooks and ever has a short walking trail down along the coastline. We were disappointed we didn’t get to experience the hiking and views of this park (but that’s what happens sometimes!), but would definitely stay here again is we were in the area. Enjoy!
Park Details:
ADDRESS: 280 Belfast Rd, Camden, ME 04843
HOURS: Open all year 8am to sunset (Mt Battie Road closes at 4pm daily, and closes for the winter December 1st (or when blocked by snow))
ENTRANCE FEE: $6/day per non-Maine resident ($2 for seniors), and $4/day for Maine residents. Entrance Fee waived if you are camping for the night.
TRAILS: Over 30 miles of trails
ACTIVITIES: Hiking, Biking, Camping, Cross-Counrty Skiing, Snowshoeing, Birdwatching, Horseback Riding
DOG RULES: Dogs are allowed on all trails and campsites. Dogs are not allowed in park buildings. Dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Please pick up after your pet.
